What is BCCH (Broadcast Control Channel)?

The broadcast control channel is a logical broadcast channel that is used by the base station in a GSM network to send information about the identity of the network. A BCCH is a point-to-multipoint, unidirectional channel that is used in the air interface of the GSM network. The minimum BCCH message set is system information messages. Any GSM ARFCN that includes a BCCH is designed as a beacon channel and is required to transmit continually with full power.
