Mobile Switching Center is the primary service delivery node for GSM and CDMA technologies which are responsible for routing voice calls, SMS as well as other services. It is responsible for setting up as well as the release of the end-to-end connection, it handles the mobility management procedures and handover requirements during the call process. It takes care of charging and real-time pre-paid account monitoring. The Anchor MSC is the MSC from which a handover has been initiated. The target MSC is the MSC towards which a handover should take place. The role of the Anchor MSC in GSM networks is to preserve a stable call connection, this basically happens in the case of mobile handoff to different MSC’s.
